Breaking the Pattern of Depression

Breaking the pattern of depression is not easy. Depression is believed to be caused from a chemical imbalance in the brain. It is also believed that this chemical imbalance may be passed down from generation to generation. This chemical imbalance may be bring on depression when the ones who have it go through one or more major changes or events in their lives. Some of these events could be puberty, loss of a loved one, childbirth, pregnancy, menopause, divorce, or other events. Some researchers also believe that, in women, part of the problem may be from hormonal changes. In order to break the pattern of depression, the person with depression needs to get the proper help from a professional who deals with depressive patients. The sooner one seeks help, the sooner they can be on the road to recovery and back to their normal lives.

You may be suffering from depression for a while before you even know it, or you may be feeling down but do not know why. See your doctor and let them know how you feel and what your symptoms are so they can diagnose your problem and prescribe the proper treatment. There are many name brand medications, generic brands, and also natural alternative medications for the different forms of depression and for the different symptoms. Your doctor may have to perform a trial and error for a while until they figure out the right medication for you. Some of the medications will work for some, but not for others. The doctor has to find the one which will work for you without side effects. For those who cannot take the medications because of other illnesses can get hypnotherapy, cognitive surgery, or other therapy. The doctor will decide which one is best suited for the patient. The alternative medications may be prescribed instead of the synthetic drugs.

There are over twenty three million adults who suffer from depression and over eight million children. Depression is a very serious illness and needs to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. Twice as many women have depression as men do. Men tend to try to hide their problems by drinking alcohol or doing drugs. Depression can be dangerous for the one with depression and for everyone around them. For everyone’s sake, treatment should be given promptly. If not treated, depression can become so severe that the patient may have thoughts of death or suicide. If you have a family member who is having one or more symptoms of depression, try to get them to seek the help of a professional. There is no reason why anyone should suffer from depression with all of the remedies for controlling it.
