Depression Hurts

Having depression not only hurts the one who is suffering from it, but it hurts those who they associate with. Family members, co-workers, friends or anyone else they come in contact with can be hurt too. The one who is suffering from depression cannot control their actions because the depression makes them have feelings that are out of their control. They can feel restless, irritable, tired, weak, lack of interest in things that they normally enjoyed, have bouts of anger, rage, or just the opposite, have low self esteem, appetite disorder, sleep disorder, rapid weight loss or gain for no apparent reason, cannot concentrate or make decisions, or thoughts of death or suicide.

There are different types of depression and some of them are bipolar (severe highs and lows), dysthymia, seasonal affective disorder, and postpartum depression. There are many medications for the different types of depression and their symptoms so your doctor will have to run a few tests to diagnose the type of depression you might be suffering from. If you are suffering from one or more of the symptoms of depression, you need to see your doctor to get the proper treatment you need. There is no reason to be ashamed of having depression. You are not alone and depression is caused from a chemical imbalance in the brain so it is not your fault. When one has this chemical imbalance, all it takes to become depressed is for some event or events in your life to trigger the onset of it. Childbirth can trigger postpartum depression, seasonal affective disorder is the recurrence of depression during certain seasons, and so forth.

There are many brand name, generic and alternative medications for depression and they can help so there is no reason for anyone to suffer from any form of depression. Some forms of depression will only last a short while but others will last a long time. Bipolar will last a lifetime but it can be controlled with medication and/or therapy. The proper medication for your type of depression and symptoms will have to be determined by your doctor. You can help yourself by joining a support group who is also suffering from depression. If you can all discuss your feelings and learn from each other, you can help yourself and them too. If you can figure out what happened to trigger the depression, you can take steps to prevent it from reoccurring. Self help along with medications can get you back on your feet and enjoying the things you enjoyed before the onset of the depression. When you suffer from depression, those around you suffer too so the sooner you get help, the sooner everyone will feel better.
