Buy Weight Loss Products Containing Ephedra If you want to buy weight loss products containing ephedra you might have to go to another country besides the United States. Ephedra was banned in the United States in October, 2006 for the second time. It was first banned in 2003 after the Food and Drug Administration received over 800 reports of people having strokes and heart attacks and even some deaths related to products containing ephedra. Other side effects reported were insomnia, seizures, rapid heart beat, irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, hives, anxiety, itching, allergies, nausea, vomiting, psychosis, nervousness, tremors, and more. Some people did not feel that the FDA had enough proof to show that ephedra was as dangerous as they claimed so they got a petition and filed it in 2004 with the court to get the ban on ephedra lifted. The court agreed with the people and lifted the ban on ephedra in 2005 because they felt that the FDA did not have enough evidence to show that ephedra was dangerous when less than 10 mg per dose was used. Reports came in to the FDA that more people were suffering from heart attacks and strokes while only using 8 mg of ephedra. The FDA decided to have some of the ephedra products tested to find out how much ephedra was in each dose. The results were that some of the products contained more ephedra and some contained less ephedra than was stated on the labels of the products. Some of them contained no ephedra at all. Armed with this information and all of the reports received from 1997 to 2006, the FDA went back to court and this time the Federal court banned ephedra for the second and hopefully last time. Some of the products which contained ephedra before the ban but are now ephedra free are Diet Fuel, Energy Fuel, Everslender, Metabolift, Ripped Fuel, Metabolite, Metabolife, Trimspa, Lipodrene, Hydroxycut, Phentermin, Zantrex, Stacker2, Stacker 3, Stacker Lite, Xelerate, and many more. Many products replaced ephedra with an alternative ingredient but some companies just discontinued the products that contained ephedra. Ephedra comes from the shrub plant ephedra and was also made synthetically. The plant is found in some desert regions around the world. It has been used by the Chinese for over 5,000 years and by the Native Americans, Mormons, and Mexicans for many years for medicinal purposes. The different names for ephedra are Mormons Tea, Ma Huang, Herbal Ecstasy, Chinese Ephedra, Squaw Tea, Epitonin, and Desert Tea. Ephedra was used for asthma, lung and bronchial tube congestion, sinus congestion, fever, to stop sweating associated with illnesses, common cold, cough, weight loss, as an energy booster, and as a sports performance booster.
