There are several different names for ephedra. There is Chinese Ephedra, Squaw Tea, Mormon Tea, Ma Huang, and Epitonin. The ephedra comes from the ephedra shrub or it was made synthetically. Both types were dangerous to many people’s health. Ephedra is a stimulant herb which is found in arid regions of the world. There are 4 different species of the ephedrine plant which might explain the different names for it. Ephedrine acts as a stimulant which can cause the rapid or irregular heartbeat. It dilates the bronchial muscles, contracts nasal mucosa, raises blood pressure, and is a cardiac stimulant. It has amphetamine like effects that is similar to adrenaline. It is less powerful than adrenaline but they last longer than adrenaline. Ephedra is a white odorless powder or crystalline alkaloid which is isolated from the ephedra shrub.
