Health Plan It is hard to choose a health plan because there are so many of them to choose from and they are very expensive. Some employers offer their employees discounted group health insurance and others pay a portion of the group health insurance premiums and the individual is responsible for the rest. The plans have deductibles and some have co-payments to choose from. The higher the deductible, the lower the monthly premium. The premiums are deducted from the employees pay check so the insurance company knows they are going to get their money. There are plans that may pay 50%, 80%, or 100% of the medical bills after the yearly deductible is met. This also makes a difference in the monthly premiums but just keep in mind that the plan that only pays 50% is going to leave a substantial part of the bill for the employee to pay and sometimes that can be thousands of dollars. There are short term health care plans for those who are traveling internationally or just across the country. Many times your regular health insurance will not cover you if you go out of state or to another country. Short term health insurance is reasonably priced because there is a lot of things it will not cover. It is basically used for emergencies and expenses incurred by ambulance or life-flight costs. They can be very expenses in other countries. Some health insurance companies will pay a percentage of the medical bills after the deductible is met and the health provider will accept the insurance payment as payment in full so you are free from paying more. This is not always the case though. Some hospitals and doctors still want the balance of the bill from the individual. If you have health insurance through your place of employment, you are getting it cheaper than the individual who has to purchase it on their own because of the group rates. Some health insurance companies offer self-employed people a group rate but it can still be pretty expensive. Many people do not have health insurance because their place of employment does not offer it and they can not afford to get it on their own. In this case, the individual and their family have to suffer. They do not have health insurance and can not afford to get it, plus they cannot afford to see a doctor when needed and cannot get medications when needed for themselves or their family. If the people are under the guidelines of poverty, and have kids in the home, they can get a little help from the Federal Government. They can get some health care and medical bills paid for but there are some health problems that the medicaid does not pay. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
