Mental Health Services The Federal Government offers a wide variety of mental health services for the prevention and treatment of mental health problems. The CMHS (Center for Mental Health Services) gives grants to the states to aid in quality mental health care for those who need it. They also make community block grants available for areas that need them. These grants are to help adults who suffer from serious mental illnesses and children with emotional disturbances. You can find more information about this at http://mentalhealth.samhsa.gov/funding. You can also check with your state government for information about what your state has to offer. Some of the other websites that has information about this is at www.samhsa.gov, www.dhhs.gov, and www.surgeongeneral.gov. You can also check with your county welfare office for assistance available in your area. This will vary from state to state because the Federal Government leaves the authority up to each state in how to distribute the grants and funds available. The decisions to give assistance to individuals are made on a state and local level so you will need to contact them if you know someone who needs mental health assistance. Information about mental health disorders can be found through the National Mental Health Information Center. They have free publications available on mental health topics. If you are interested, you can call the Information Center at 1-800-789-2647 and they will send the publications to you. You can also email them at nmhic-info@samhsa.hhs.gov and send them your name and address. You can also place an order online at http://nmhicstore.samhsa.gov/publications/ordering.aspx. Statistics on mental health can be found at www.mhsip.org. There is a lot of information online and all you have to do is research it through one of the major search engines. If you have found the information you needed and feel you need help or know someone who does, you can contact your local DHS office in your county for further assistance.
