Nutritional Diet Vitamin Supplements Natural diet vitamin supplements are fast becoming more popular as people realize they are much safer to use and are also much cheaper to buy. There are no synthetics or additives in the natural supplements. Natural supplements usually do not have serious side effects that drugs have. Once in a while there is one that causes serious side effects and has to be taken off of the market. Ephedra is a good example of this. It was banned in the United States in 2006 because there were reports of heart attacks, strokes, and even deaths as well as other side effects from the use of ephedra products.. These incidents were caused when amounts of as small as 8 mg of ephedra per dose was used. The numbers of reported side effects were too large to ignore. If you are in doubt about a supplement you should discuss it with your doctor. Also if you are pregnant or nursing or have health problems and are taking prescription medications, discuss supplements with your doctor before you take them. Some supplements do not mix well with some drugs and your doctor can give you advice about them. Many doctors are now realizing the potential of natural supplements and are recommending them to some of their patients. There are diet supplements for weight loss, control of blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, circulation, to boost energy, prostrate problems, menopause, thyroid health, male enhance performance products, mental health such as a memory booster and to prevent memory loss, stress supplements, sleep aids, digestive aids that will cleanse the digestive system to rid the body of the impurities that cause many health issues, and many more helpful supplements. There is a diet supplement for just about every health issue you might face. Natural supplements have been used by our ancestors for many years for medicinal purposes and have just in the past few years been noticed by doctors and scientists for their potential as health aids. The doctors and scientists are beginning to see what our ancestors have known for many years. There is no control over supplements on the market today because there are no drugs involved so the FDA can not control them. However, if a supplement causes serious side effects and the FDA gets enough reports and evidence together, they can get the product banned or taken off of the market. If you ever use a supplement and experience any side effects from it you should report it to your doctor. If you experience serious side effects from a supplement, you should seek medical help as soon as possible. You can also report the side effects to your local health department and also to the FDA Consumer Hotline. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
