Times Educational Supplement

The Times Educational Supplement (also known as the Times Higher Education Supplement) was published in 1910 as a pull out supplement for the Times newspaper. Bt 1914 it had become so popular that it became a weekly publication and the cost for it was 1 penny. In 1999 a different group of News International, the Times Supplements Limited, was restructured and the TSL Education Ltd was created. They also published the Times Higher Education Supplement, and Nursery World. In October, 2005 the group of publications were sold to Exponent which is a private equity group. A new launch was done on the looks and the contents of the newspapers in November, 2006 and they became full color publications in the print version. Both the online and offline versions got a facelift!

The Times Educational Supplement is published every week on friday and the cover price is now 1.30 London price. The THES is based in London and the reports are based on higher education as the name indicates so there is very little doubt as to what the newspaper is about. Studies show that the average monthly readers are about 474,000. The editor of the main edition of the paper is Judith Judd. The deputy editor is Wendy Berliner. Both women previously worked for newspapers such as The Independent, The Observer, and The Guardian. There are alternative versions of the TES produced for Wales and Scotland. It is named TES CYMRU which is edited by Nicola Porter and TES edited by Neil Munro. Most of the papers are sold in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The TES website is divided into sections which include ‘community’, ‘jobs’, and ‘resources’ categories. Under the community section you will find forums for teachers. Under the jobs category you will find for the vacancies listed in the TES paper and is updated daily. The resource section is an area where the teachers can upload lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, IWB resources and more that they can share with other teachers. The Review Bank is a source where they can get educational products such as books, software, and classroom equipment they might need. There is a lot of information and products that can be found in this newspaper either online or in print offline. This is a publication that can help educators around the world, not just in England, Ireland, or the United Kingdom. The newspaper also contains education information about the United States and other countries. It is not just directed to a few countries. If you are a teacher and need assistance, you might just find a world of information in this supplement. It no longer is a supplement, it stands by itself because it has enough information that it does not need to lean on any other publication.

The 2006 top ten rated Universities were 1. Harvard University, 2. University of Cambridge, 3. the University of Oxford, 4. Massachusetts University of Technology, 5. Yale University, 6. Stanford University, 7. California Institute of Technology, 8. Berkeley (University of California), 9. Imperial College London, and 10. Princeton. The supplement lists the top 20 but you will have to look it up to see what the other 10 are.
