Christian Weight Loss What would Jesus Eat? Some people are dieting the Christian weight loss way. There are counselors and coaches that can help you lose weight God’s way. These counselore claim they can show you a way to lose weight without drugs, pills, or diets. They say you can accomplish in 7 weeks what you haven’t been able to do for years. You can enjoy the trim, healthy body that God wants you to have. The Christian weight loss market has been succeeding since the 1950's. One Presbyterian Minister, Rev. Charlie Shedd wrote a best selling book called “Pray Your Weight Away” in 1957 and has had follow up books titled “Fat is in Your Head” and “Devotions for Dieters”. This was just the beginning of an outpour of other related books, workshops, support groups, e-courses, and church related weight loss programs that have grown steadily over the years. It is believed by some that overweight or obesity is a sign of a spiritual emptiness which people exchange for a hunger for food. Like many other diets, it is just a matter of eating the proper foods and exercising but leaning on God for support and guidance. Asking God to help you with your diet and believing in Him is the secret to your success. There are many workshops around the world in over 35,000 churches that is the largest Christian Diet Plan. It is based in Tennessee and is a 12 week Bible study plan and more than a million people have signed up for it. The founder of this Christian workshop is Gwen Shamblin. She is a dietician and believes that God can and will help us lose weight if we but follow the right plan. Some people feel that the reason there were no fat or obese people in the days of Jesus is because there were no Big Macs, etc. to tempt the people. They also feel that no where in the teachings of Jesus was there any criticism for those who did not eat right. People in the past led a more active life than those do today and that in itself is a reason for heavier people It is believed that losing weight is in one way a mind game, just like stopping smoking. There is a lot of will power needed and you have to be ready to diet and be prepared to stick to it. God can play a big part in it if you let Him. He can help make you stronger through prayer and if you believe in Him enough you can lose the weight you want to lose and keep it off. You can make your own plan and set your own goal and ask God to guide you through it. Support groups may help some people but God alone can do it if you let him. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
