Hoodia on 60 Minutes

CBS News claims that the Hoodia Plant from the Kalahari Dessert may become the most recent product that is going to fight the battle of the bulge. It is reported that each year overweight consumers spend more than $40 billion on diet products in hopes to slim down and feel much better about themselves. With many it is not just the fact that they will lose weight, it also means that they will be able to do things they always wanted to do and feel much healthier while doing it. In other words it will give them a sense of freedom and another chance at life. Many overweight people cannot exercise like they should and by taking Hoodia they can lose weight anyway and maybe eventually getting the energy again to do more activities and therefore let them lead a more healthy life.

Ephedra and Phenfen were been banned because they caused serious side effects. None of the other weight loss products seem to be working well. Then along comes Hoodia, a natural substance taken from the Hoodia Gordonii plant which quietly takes your appetite away with no side effects.

CBS '60 Minutes' was told if they wanted to try Hoodia Gordonii they would have to go to Africa, so off to Africa they went. News correspondent Lesley Stahl, after trying the Hoodia plant, reported that it had a bitter taste but that it kept her from being hungry for 24 hours. She stated that it tasted a little cucumbery in texture but was not bad. She claims that she had no other effects. She had no feelings of queasiness, no bad taste in her mouth, and no racing heart. Although she normally got a hunger pang around mealtime, she had no desire to eat ot drink anything all day. Her final opinion was that it worked!
The 60 Minutes News crew hired Nigel Crawhall, a linguist and interpreter, who in turn hired Toppies Kruiper, a local bushman, who led them into the Kahalari Desert where the Hoodia Gordonii was found.

Hoodia Gordoni has been lab tested on humans and rats and found that the same results ensued. They all lost weight without and negative side effects. The ones tested also had more energy and did not want to eat as much if anything. The Hoodia plant has been tested for many years and used for over 25,000 years by the bushmen and has been found to be safe and effective for adults.

The discovery of the Hoodia plant has made it the newest and favorite weapon against obesity. Many are shouting it to the rooftops because it works.

The future of the Hoodia is a question yet to be answered. The tribesmen are still poor, and in danger. The proceeds from the plants taken from their land should benefit them but instead they are being tortured. The battle of the bulge is not the only battle going on today.
